Kristina

An important way to love our neighbor

Kristina Lunsford is one of our younger members at Holy Cross. Just eleven years old, Kristina has had kidney problems since she was born, and is now at a health point that she is in need of a kidney transplant. While the prognosis is good, this is clearly a serious matter, and one that requires our prayer and care as a congregation. To that end, this page is being setup to help us keep track of what we can do as a congregation to serve Kristina, as well as her parents, John and Kim, and her sisters, Kara and Kelsey. God’s peace to you all as we take this journey with them.

A note from the Lunsford family (written by Kara)

Dear friends & family,

My little sister who is only 11 years old has been battling with health problems concerning her kidneys since she was born. Over time, they have unexpectedly gotten worse causing kidney failure.  Her only option for treatment is a kidney transplant.  Presently, her kidneys are functioning at 15% and continuing to fail.

Finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney. Time is not on our side. The average wait time is five years or more for a kidney from a deceased donor.  However, there is another option: receiving a kidney from a living donor.

Asking a family member or a friend to consider donating is difficult, but it greatly improves her chances of getting a transplant.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Humbly, I am asking if you or anyone you know might be willing to apply as a potential living donor. If donating a kidney to Kristina is something you would like to consider, I would be happy to tell you more about my sisters story and explore the process of determining if you are a match for her.

However, I know living donation may not be right for everyone — but you can still help by sharing our story with everyone you know.

For more information, please consider visiting http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/transplant/bealivingdonor/get_started.html.

If you choose to a donor, the process is fairly simple. The first step is to visit https://ld.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/donor/pages/donor.faces and fill out the living donor interest form. Please make sure you add Kristina’s name (Kristina Lunsford) and her birthday (March 16, 2006) in the recipient drop down.

Thank you,

The Lunsford Family

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon Kristina and increase your mercy in us that in difficult moments we might not despair or become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.
